A Legal Document Assistant (LDA) is a non-lawyer authorized to prepare legal documents for people representing themselves in legal matters. As Legal Assistants, we perform substantive legal work with and without the supervision of an attorney.  Because we are not attorneys, we are prohibited from providing legal advice and/or opinion, but we may prepare legal documents in a ministerial manner, provide published legal documents, and attorney-authored general information.  Also, we may file and serve documents at the direction of the client.  Laws concerning Legal Document Assistants may be found in the BPC §§6400-6415.
